Sid was born in Thrushington, County of Leicestershire, England on November 28, 1917. In 1927 Sid came to Canada with his family, Francis and Martha Brown. He received his schooling in Elton school district. He resided in the Douglas district until 1939 when he moved to the Mentmore area to farm. In 1941 Sid enlisted in the Third Division Royal Canadian Artillery. When overseas in England Sid met and married Lilian Gilham on April 22, 1944 at Harrietsham Kent. Lilian came to Canada in 1946 as a war bride. Sid and Lil were both active in 4-H in the Cordova area for approximately 10 years. They also both enjoyed curling. Sid was a member of the local Board of Directors of MPE and served on the advisory board of the Co-op Livestock Division. They raised three children, two boys and a girl.

Francis, their oldest son, was born on February 23, 1947. He spent his elementary school years at Gordon School and went to high school at Neepawa Area Collegiate Institute. During his school years Francis participated in a 4-H Beef Club. He was and is also a fairly keen curler. On April 23, 1966 Francis married Stacey Veale of Neepawa. They have remained in the Mentmore district and in 1971 they purchased the former Will Sirett farm. Francis and Stacey have a family of three. Their eldest daughter was born September 30, 1966 and lives in Neepawa where she works at the Beautiful Plains Credit Union. Kerri, their second daughter, was born April 25, 1969 and is taking grade 11 at NACI. Their youngest child, Kevin, was born July 30,1980. He is in his first school year at HMK, attending kindergarten.

Their daughter Shirley was born January 21, 1949. She attended school at Gordon School and high school at Brookdale. Shirley also participated in 4-H, winning awards in public speaking. After graduating from high school she took her practical nursing training and upon graduation nursed at Brandon General Hospital. On November 20, 1971 she married Marshall Lee from Barrhead, Alta.

They now reside in Winnipeg and have a family of three girls. Michelle was born June 8, 1972 and is in grade eight. Trisha was born January 7. 1977 and is in grade three. Their youngest, Lindsey, was born November 12, 1982 and does not yet attend school.

James, the youngest son, was born January 4, 1955 and had the distinction of being Neepawa''s New Year''s baby. Jim attended school in Brookdale and Neepawa. During his school years Jim belonged to the 4-H Beef Club and also the Neepawa Air Cadet Squadron. Jim was married to Tannis Hunter of Arden on May 15,1976. They have two children.

Tannis Lynn was born on September 25,1976. She attends grade three at H.M.K. Michael was born August 30, 1978 and is in grade two at H.M.K. Jim and Tannis lived at the home farm after marriage until they built a house on the former Nelson Dunsmore farm.

Sid and Lil moved to a new home in Neepawa in the autumn of 1976. Sid continued farming and Lil was soon busy with many activities in Neepawa. Sid passed away July 10, 1979 after a short illness. Lil continues to live in Neepawa and keeps busy year round.
