MR. and MRS. HERB ROBERTS and FAMILY

Herb and Carol are both Manitobans, Herb having been born in Hartney and Carol at Petersfield.

They met at Dand United Church, where Carol was serving her first ordained pastorate (Lauder- Melgund-Dand) in 1958. They were married December 27,1958. When Arthur and Owen (born August 23,1959) were 10 months old, Carol resigned to spend full-time as a farm wife. However, a complete crop failure in 1961 necessitated a return to active ministry. The family spent the years of 1962-67 at Alexander, where Carol served Alexander, Kemnay and Roseland. Christine was six months old when they went there, and approaching school age when the family moved to Oak Lake. Two other children, Marcia (October 9, 1963) and Theresa (October 7, 1966) were born during the stay at Alexander. After three years at Oak Lake, the family moved to Brookdale. Carol served Brookdale and Gordon churches until Gordon closed in 1971, and Brookdale became part of the Neepawa and Area Larger Parish, served by Rev. D. Wilton Fraser, Rev. Gordon I. Fulford, as well as Carol.

Later, after Mr. Fraser''s retirement, Rev. Jack White became part of the team.

The children were 11, 11, nine, seven and four when the Roberts family moved to Brookdale, and therefore did a good deal of their growing up there.

Christine and Marcia attended the old school for one year. Carol conducted both Messengers and Explorers for some years, as well as Vacation Bible School at Brookdale and other places on the parish.

Herb during those years continued to commute to the farm at Dand, and, part of that time, to a farm at Newton Siding.

At the end of June, 1977, just after Arthur and Owen had graduated from high school in Neepawa, the family moved to Pierson, where they remained for four years, moving to Strathclair in 1981. Herb and Carol now live on their farm southwest of Newdale, and Carol continues to serve the Strathclair-Newdale-Cardale charge. The family whereabouts are as follows: Arthur, farming with his father. Owen, (who married Anna Kobs May 22, 1982) works in Math and Computer Science Dept., Brandon University and farms with the others during the time when university is not in session.

Christine (who married Martin Belanger April 19, 1981) lives in Ste. Anne de Bellevue, Quebec, and is working towards her degree in Agriculture.

Marcia is attending Brandon University School of Music. Theresa attends McGill University in Montreal.
