Charlie and Madeleine Beaudry

Richard Joseph Charles-Emile was born on May 8, 1924 in St. Valerien, Quebec. Charlie is the son of Hormisdas and Elisabeth Beaudry. In 1942 Charlie moved from Quebec to Saskatchewan to farm with his Uncle Rodrigue Beaudry. Charlie worked on the farm in the summer months and worked in the Logging industry during the winter. In 1944 he bought his own farm NW 5-39-15. In 1953 Charlie married his wife Marie-Anne Madeleine Lanouette.

Madeleine grew up in a small town in Saskatchewan. Madeleine finished high school in Prid’homme. She taught school for eight years in the schools of Cantal, Domremy, Perigord and one year in Plamondon, AB. For six years, Charlie and Madeleine farmed their land and started their family. They had two boys and one girl. Marcel Joseph Roland born November 27, 1954, Denis Joseph born August 19, 1956, and Solange Therese born November 3, 1957.

In 1959 Charlie and Madeleine moved to Bellsite Manitoba to farm on SE 18-42-25 W. Madeleine took time off from teaching to look after her children and the farm. She went back to teach when the children were older for 1966 and 1967. Charlie has always spent his working days on the farm and in the logging industry. Now that their children are grown up and on their own they spend time visiting and helping their children’s families. You can see Madeleine teaching her grandchildren catechism, how to bake good cookies or just reading french books to them. Charlie is as ambitious as his young grandchildren, he still chops wood for his wood cookstove, teaches the boys how to run tractors and is teaching them about horses. Charlie has quite a few horses that need to be tamed. We are a lucky family to have Marcel, Wanda, Richard, Andrew, Jenette and Mitchel, Denis and his family and Solange, Ken, Kathryn, Roxanne, Melanie, Stephanie, Jeffery, and Pauline, our children, living so close to us. We all live within a four mile radius of each other. These days you can find Charlie and Madeleine spending their time volunteering at the Bellsite Community Centre, hunting, playing bingo, or just visiting with all their friends.
