Dr. C. M. Thomas, and the school board of that time, deserve much credit for their efforts to promote the educational facilities of today.
It is impossible in a book of this size to list all of the events, important as they may be. However, we are going to include a picture which we feel will be of interest to everyone who has known the gentlemen who are in it.
We show this picture as a tribute of respect for Mr. W. H.
Simpson, who was a member of our historical committee, who didn't live to see his hopes for this Portage la Prairie publication come true.
Shown here, top row, is: J. P. Bend (ward 1), W. H. Simpson (ward 2), W. R. McCowan (ward 3); Centre: - Lawrence Smith (Reeve), deceased, and W. M. McMillan (Sec. Treas.).
Bottom row: - W. G. Brown (ward 4) deceased, Orville Henry (ward 5), J. W. Tully (ward 6) and T. N. Kitchen (ward 7).
All who have ever served our district by being a part of Rural and City Council through the years deserve a similar honor to the one afforded here. We hope, that some day, a future publication will make it possible.
