Mom and dad were very proud of their grandchildren and more so when their great-grandchildren were born and spent as much time with them as they could. We farmed in Sandy Lake, but now are retired and living at Shoal Lake, MB. On October 15, 1989 a 50th Wedding Anniversary open house tea, blessings, and a family supper was celebrated for mom and dad. They were also members of the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Erickson. Mom was an active member of the Women's League and Sisterhood.

After a lengthy illness, stroke and heart failure, dad passed away on December 13, 1994, at the age of 83. Mom continued to live in her home and enjoyed spending time looking after her garden and flowers. She also spent as much time as possible with Ed, J, Michele, Patrick, Bradley, Robert and Kevin. Her illness of cancer was diag­ nosed and she suddenly passed away August 13, 1999. Both mom and dad are buried in Erickson at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.


Katie remained in the home she and Frank shared until her death in March 1996.

Marcia now resides in the family home. She retired from nursing in 1999. Son, Wade, is remarried and lives in Morinville, AB. They have a son and daughter. Daughter, Barbara, lives in Edmonton.

Elwood still resides in the Toronto area. He retired from Pratt and Whitney in May 1999. His son, Jordan, lives in Merrickville, ON. He has two young daughters. Daughter Laura is married and lives in Fenelon Falls, ON. They have a son and daughter. Daughter, Kristine lives in Toronto.

Frank Jr. moved from Winnipeg to Mississauga, ON in August 1987.

Robert remains in Trail, Be. His wife, Carolle, passed away in August 1997. Daughter, Shannon, is married and lives in Trail. Son, Ryan, lives in Vancouver, BC.


After 1984, the pattern for Martha continued of summers in Viking Valley, winters in Paradise Park, Harlingen, Texas, and extended visits with family.

In 1986, Martha and Rev. J. Melvin Berg were married. They lived at his family home south east of Minnedosa.

The Bergs travelled considerably: Florida, Texas, California, visiting many friends and relatives in Canada and the USA. Highlights were attending two pastor's retreats at Entheos in the Foothills of the Rockies, and in 1986, a summer tour of Sweden, connecting with roots of

the Berg and Gudmundson-Hall families. Eight years later,

Martha returned to Sweden with the Lees. This trip included visits with relatives in scenic Norway.

Melvin died in April 1988, and Martha moved to the cabin they were building at Ditch Lake that continues to be her home.

Arthur Donn Grant and Shirley Neilson have lived in Sherwood Park, AB since 1976, raising four children to adulthood and welcoming one grandchild so far.
