Michael was born in February, 1886, in Bialo Potik, Poland, and arrived in Canada in 1907, working in different areas of Ontario and came to the Rackham district about 1911 or 1912. As he made enough money, he sent for his brothers from Poland until he had his three brothers Mac, Frank and Joe in Canada, too.

On May 24, 1914, he married Katherine Shandalla, who was also born in Poland on November 27, 1895. She came to Canada with her parents in 1901. They farmed in the Rackham district until 1921, when they bought a farm from Ed Hole - S.W. 5-17-18W in the Municipality of Clanwilliam - the Alfred Gustafson farm - Micheal farmed until his untimely death in 1931.

Katherine kept the farm with the help of her sons. She later married Paul Usick and they moved into Erickson in 1943. Paul passed away in 1953. In 1957, she married Tom Mochnacz and he passed away in 1962.

While in Erickson, Katherine joined the Erickson Ladies Auxiliary and was a faithful worker for the Erickson St. Judes Catholic Church.

She then spent some time in Kenora, Ontario, returned to Erickson and was a resident of the Parkland Home, then because of ill health, she was moved to the Sandy Lake nursing home until her death in March, 1983.
