In 1957, his growing family moved to Santa Barbara, California. Ferg worked in the constrnction industry there. Their other sons, Robert (Bob), Craig and Douglas were born there (March 1959, August 1961 and August 1963, respectively).

In the summer of 1966, Ferg and his family moved back to Canada. They settled in Robb, AB (part of the historic Coal Branch area of northwest Alberta). Vera taught elementary school and piano lessons after the family returned to Canada until her retirement.

While living in Robb and Niton Junction, Ferg received his Bachelor of Education degree and taught school for three years in this area. He returned to the constrnction industry and worked on large oil, gas and hydroelectric installations in Northern Alberta and Manitoba.

Ferg and Vera's marriage ended in 1979 and their divorce followed in 1983.

Their values about education, hard work and learn­ ing about the world were passed on to their children. lone has a degree in education and is the Executive Director of a shelter for abused women. She lives in Edmonton, AB. Carl has degrees in Education and Canadian Studies, and is a respected French teacher in Kimberley, Be. Bob has degrees in Law and Business and is an entrepreneur in Edmonton and Victoria, Be. Craig has a degree in Computing Science and has his own consulting business in the San Francisco, California area. Doug has a degree in Political Science and works for the federal government in external affairs. He lives between Ottawa and South America. All their children travel extensively.

There is one grandchild. Her name is Margot Challbom. She was born to lone in January 1990. She is a special addition to the Challborn family.

Ferg retired in 1992 at age 63. He lives at NW 6-18- 18 Erickson and enjoys his family, friends, books and hobbies (his farm, bridge and reading).


Sam and Mary (Kostenchuk) had four children:

Gloria, Larry, Linda and Nicholas. Mary passed away on December 11, 1983. Sam remained on the farm till the fall of 1986, when son Nick purchased the farm and Sam moved to Minnedosa. After a few years, Sam moved to Neepawa, where he lives today at Kinsmen Kourts.

Daughter Gloria and husband Lawrence Labiuk still reside in Winnipeg where Lawrence is now retired from the CN Railway. They raised a family of eight: Darcy, Hailey, Tracy, Kevin, Shawn, Lisa, Lauren and Jaimie. Today, three of them are married and Lawrence and Gloria are blessed with five grandchildren.

Daughter Linda Guspodarchuk resides in Winnipeg.

Over the years she had been involved in the hotel business in Winnipeg and st. Norbert, MB and in Kamsack, SK. Linda also ran her own limousine service. She had two chil­ dren: Dayna, who resides in Sioux Lookout, ON and works for an optometrist; David, who resides in Winnipeg, attends the University of Winnipeg.

Son Nick and wife Lisa (proven) purchased the family farm in 1986. They had two children: Mark, born August 29, 1985 and Jill, born July 2, 1987. Nick worked on road constrnction in Manitoba and Alberta. He also farmed with his brother Larry. Nick passed away July 13, 1997. Lisa and the children still reside on the farm.


Larry and Sherian (Boyko) reside on the farm on SE 14-17 -17 in the R.M. of Clanwilliam. Besides farming, Larry has been driving a school bus for Rolling River School Division since 1982. Sherian is employed at East View Lodge in Neepawa. They are members ofSt. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church at Mountain Road and Erickson Legion and Auxiliary. Larry is on the Board of Directors for Heritage Co-op and Sherian is the secretary for the board. They had three children: Sheila, Kimberly and Jeffery.

Sheila, born March 16, 1971, graduated from Neepawa Collegiate in 1989. She worked at Andy's Cafe and the Nordic Inn Restaurant and then at the Co-op Food Store where she is still working today. On July 4, 1992, Sheila married Dennis Tiller of Erickson. They have a daughter, Ashton, born March 18, 1993. Ashton attends Erickson Elementary School. Dennis also works for Heritage Co-op as the bulk fuel trnck driver.

Kimberly, born October 2, 1972, graduated from Erickson Collegiate in 1990. While attending the University of Manitoba, she worked for the Department of Agriculture in the NISA Department. She graduated from University on May 28, 1997 with a Commerce degree. Two days after graduation, Kim started working for McFadden and Associates in Washington, DC, where she is still employed as a Contract Manager in the corporate office. She lives in Manassass, Virginia.

Jeffery, born October 31, 1977, graduated from Neepawa Collegiate in 1996. He has been employed with Mid- West Diamond Drilling during the winter months, working in places such as northern Ontario and Rankin Inlet, NWT, and on road constrnction in the summer. At present, Jeffworks for the R.M. of Odanah as a grader oper­ ator and lives in Erickson.
