Lake. They were married on August 1, 1959 in the Behtlehem Lutheran Church, Erickson.

They first lived in Russell, Manitoba where Al was an insurance agent for Monarch Life Assurance Company. Jane worked for Mr. Smellie, a lawyer, for a short period. Al decided to go back to teaching so they moved to Winnipeg and Jane obtained a job with Guy, Chappell & Co. She worked for Guy Jr. until their first child, Jim was born July 19, 1961. He is now a heavy equipment operator in the Vancouver area. At this time Al obtained a job with Allstate Insurance Co. and Jane went to work for Brock & Brock, Lawyers. Their second son, David, was born September 30, 1963. He is in his second year of college majoring in Computer Science.

Jane returned to work this time for Western Engine Works, retiring after three years. Sandy, their daughter was born October 14, 1967. She is in grade 10 at New Westminster Secondary School.

In 1972, the family moved to Burnaby, B.C. where Al sold insurance for a year, then went into house con­ struction. Jane is involved in the company doing the bookwork. Two years ago they moved to New West­ minster into one of the homes in their company's project.

John Vernon Gustafson was born October 5, 1931 at Mrs. Biczo's nursing home at Erickson with Dr. Rutledge attending.

He received his Elementary schooling at Onanole, was a member of the United Church Sunday School, a Cub and a Boy Scout.

John moved to Erickson with his parents and sister in 1947. Here, he received his high school education and was confirmed in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He received an accounting course at Success College in Winnipeg. John returned to Erickson to work for his father at Erickson Transfer.

John and Leona Bernice Hoefer were married Sep­ tember 11,1954 in the Knox United Church at McCreary. Leona, daughter of Leon and Annie Hoefer of Me­ Creary, was born April 12, 1934 at Carnduff, Saskat­ chewan. She received her education at Mountain Eve School and McCreary High School. Leona was a member of the McCreary 4-H Club and curled with a High school team. In August 1952-1955, Leona was employed at the Royal Bank at Erickson. By October 1955, John and Leona moved into their new home which was built by George Bergman.

John started his own construction in 1958, doing numerous water extensions and hook-ups, including the extension to Erickson Collegiate in the fall of 1963. Persons working for John were, Art Holmberg, Ken Holmberg, Marland Furevick, Reg Wanzel and Bill Shorting. The business was sold to Albert Johnson and Art Holmberg.

On June 12, 1968 John and Dennis Coey purchased Gordon's Service Garage and G.M. Dealership from Gordon Freko, changing the name to Park wood Auto.


John has served on the Executive of the Skating Rink, Curling Club, Chamber of Commerce - President 1982- 83, a representative for the Ditch Lake Comm. A Charter Member of the Erickson Lions Club - President 1968, A Charter Member of the Erickson Flying Club, A Scout Leader and Fireman, and served as a councillor for the Village of Erickson.

Over the years, he has been an ardent curler but now enjoys boating, fishing and snowmobiling. Leona remained at home after son Terence was born until he started school. She was a clerk at Jack Edward's Drug Store until it was sold, then at Earley's Pharmacy for several years and a short while at Erickson Credit Union. She has served on the executive of the Skating Rink, Curling Rink, Rec Centre and Erickson Ladies Curling. Leona enjoys curling. When spring comes, John and Leona move to the cottage at Ditch Lake for another summer.

Their son Terence Rae (Terry) was born December 9, 1955 at the Erickson Medical Nursing Unit with Drs. Morley and Nancy Sirett attending. Terence attended Sunday School at the Erickson Lutheran Church, was a Cub and Boy Scout. He received his education at the Erickson Elementary school and Collegiate. Terry was always active in sports, a Bronze Medallion swimmer, played on baseball and hockey teams, later he received his Hockey Referee Crest. Terry worked for Alcan Co. at Kitimat, B.C., returned to Erickson in 1975.

Terence married Deborah Sharon Lundman, only daughter of Clifford and Shirley Lundman on August 16, 1975. They were married at the Erickson Lutheran Church. Pastor Tysseland performed the ceremony.

They resided in Brandon where Terry was employed by Canadian Tire. At this time Debbie took a Social Services Course at Assiniboine Community College, graduating in June, 1976.

Later in 1976, Terry was transferred to Calgary, Dalhousie Store, then in 1978 to the Richmond Store. Debbie worked at Fireside Studio.

In August 1979, they moved back to Erickson, Terry was a Car Salesman for Park wood Auto. While in Erickson, Terry was a member of the Erickson Lions Club, Men's Curling Club and Erickson Flying Club and received his Private Pilot's Licence in 1980.

Debbie was an active member in the Erickson Ladies Curling Club. In 1982, they moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan, where Terry was again employed by Canadian Tire. He is at present, the Manager of the Hardware department. Debbie is a part-time employee of the Yorkton Co-op.

Their children are: Jennifer Rae was born November 28, 1977 at the Foothills Hospital, Calgary, Alberta. She was a student at Erickson Kiddies Kollege in 1981-82. Her teachers were Mrs. Mamie Anderson and Mrs. Audrey Carlson. She also attended Sunday School at the Erickson Lutheran Church. In Yorkton, Jennifer attends Columbia school, and is a member of the Figure Skating Club, Yorkton Dance Association Ballet Division, The Swana Club and Sunday School at the Zion Lutheran Church.
